Kentucky Waffle

Day 356

Kentucky Waffle
3 shots out of 5

I'm having a moment here.  Did I really just make cocktail number 356?  Can I really say that I only have 10 more cocktails to make on my year long journey?  Thank goodness we had Leap Year, right?  I  absolutely can not believe how much time has passed creating this blog.  WOW. It is a bit overwhelming when I actually stop and think about it, guess it's time to have more of this cocktail to cope, right?

I gave tonight's cocktail 3 shots out of 5.  Let me just start by saying that if I liked bourbon as much as I like rum, I would have given this cocktail a higher rating for sure!!  I received tonight's recipe a while back from Kate.  Kate had found this recipe in a Southwest Airlines Spirit magazine.  Since then I'v been looking for 100% maple syrup.  Then about 2 weeks ago I received an email from Nancy telling me about her vacation cocktail that she had found in the exact same magazine.  The magazine had attributed it to Restaurant 1833 in Monterey, CA.  I will admit now that I have taken a good number of sips of this cocktail......I'm liking it a bit more, who knows....I could end up being a bourbon fan!  Thank you so very much Kate and Nancy for tonight's cocktail recipe!!

Here is the recipe for a Kentucky Waffle:

  • 2 oz bourbon
  • 1 oz 100% pure maple syrup
  • 3/4 oz lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz sparkling cider
  • cinnamon stick
In a shaker, add ice and all of the ingredients except for the cinnamon stick.  When you are shaking it keep a hand on the top of your shaker, sometimes the sparkling cider (since it's carbonated) can build up a little pressure and want to pop that top right off.  Strain into a martini glass and pop in your cinnamon stick.

Here's to only having 10 days left of my year long adventure!

Cheers!!
